WoW Forever Legacy system: points, trees and alts explained

Understand the announced Legacy point limits, account-wide progress and separate character choices, with examples for planning a main and an alt.

What is shared, and what does each character spend?

Legacy challenges award account-wide points; characters allocate them separately. Launch limits are 16 spent per character and 65 earned. The initial trees are Adventure, Professions and Resourcefulness. Progress beyond the spending cap contributes to cosmetic or prestige rewards. Blizzard’s explanation.

Choosing a starting direction

Announced examples include Well Rested for rested experience, Bountiful Harvest for gathering yields and Reagent Economy for class reagents. Hardcore has separate incoming progression rules. Official details.

Start by writing the activity you want to improve: regular alt sessions, gathering for friends, or recurring group preparation. Then inspect the relevant tree and its prerequisite costs. A desirable tooltip is only one part of the decision; the path to reach it matters too.

Worked example: a main and an alt

Example: at 10 earned points, both your main and alt can allocate 10 independently. Spending on your main does not empty your alt’s pool.

At 20 earned, each character can still spend only 16. Do not put “earn every possible point” on your guild’s entry checklist. Decide which activity a player wants help with and let them make their own allocation.

Make a plan without inventing a best build

For a main who mostly joins organised sessions, list recurring frustrations after each run. For an alt, record how often you actually play that character. Compare those notes with the available perks before making a choice. Avoid treating a speculative build screenshot as a requirement for joining friends.

  • Check the exact tree and rank shown in your client.
  • Include prerequisite spending when comparing two perks.
  • Verify respec rules and costs before relying on frequent changes.
  • Date saved build notes so old previews are easy to recognise.

What this guide does not settle

This overview does not supply a fastest challenge route, tested maximum-rank values or a respec price. Those require more specific evidence. Keep them as open questions rather than fill the gaps with values from another version of WoW.
