WoW Forever loot discovery: how to approach early BiS lists

A new interview describes hidden item stats and encounter discovery in WoW Forever. Learn how to evaluate early BiS claims and record useful loot evidence.

What the latest interview says about item discovery

In MMORPG.com’s developer interview, Greenfield says item stats are concealed until an item drops for you or someone on the server. He also describes beginning without a dungeon journal that explains encounters. These are interview statements, not our own client tests; the exact discovery boundary still needs clarification.

How should you judge an early best-in-slot list?

A useful BiS recommendation needs a defined character, activity and set of assumptions. Ask which build supplied the item data, which alternatives were compared and what the recommendation optimises. A screenshot of one impressive item does not answer those questions.

Treat a list without that evidence as a starting hypothesis. Familiar Classic names can make a recommendation sound settled even when its Forever-specific evidence is incomplete. Ask the author to distinguish observed items from expected ones.

You can still make progress before a final list exists. Record which choices are known, which comparisons remain open and which questions a short test could answer. That is more useful to a guild than presenting guesses as mandatory preparation.

Keep a loot record that another player can check

Our suggested record below is an editorial workflow, not a game feature. Keep screenshots with their original context and distinguish what you saw from what another player reported.

Suggested fields for a guild loot record
FieldWhat to record
EvidenceScreenshot or source link, date and client build
ItemExact name, tooltip and observed restrictions
AcquisitionWhere it was obtained, or an explicit note that the source is unverified
ComparisonCharacter setup, alternative item and the question being tested
ConfidenceObserved directly, reported by another player, or still a hypothesis

Agree loot expectations before discoveries create disputes

Discuss who decides an allocation and what happens when an item's usefulness is unclear. A player should not discover a new rule only after a desirable drop appears.

For a first exploration night, choose a simple approach everyone understands and agree when to review it. If better evidence changes an item's priority, explain the reasoning prospectively instead of blaming a member for following the earlier agreement.

Our separate gear changes article covers reported stat and item changes. Use this guide alongside it to assess the quality of new recommendations, rather than treating discovery itself as proof of any particular class's best equipment.
