What level is Hall of Thanes?
Blizzard lists Hall of Thanes at levels 13–18. That is a published dungeon range, not proof of a hard entrance requirement. Use it when assembling a group, then consider the players’ equipment, learned abilities and familiarity with their roles.
Reviewed on 1 October: this guide draws on Wowhead’s walkthrough, updated 29 September, and Icy Veins’ September beta guides. These are existing beta observations, not newly announced changes. RaidMuster has not independently played these encounters; check details against the current build.
Where is the Hall of Thanes entrance?
Enter Ironforge’s High Seat, take the open doorway on the left and follow the descent through Old Ironforge to the portal at the bottom. Wowhead’s entrance walkthrough also warns that Horde players face a journey into an Alliance capital. Quest eligibility does not make that journey safe.
Set a meeting time as well as a first-pull time. Have one person who knows the approach guide newcomers down, and settle travel arrangements before inviting the whole party. Our dungeon travel guide covers the wider summoning and group-finding questions.

Five quests: what to collect before entering
Icy Veins’ quest reference lists these starts. Three quests are Alliance-only; Important Heirlooms and An Ancient Grudge are listed for both factions.
The quest database’s sequence places Underground Map before Old Ironforge Incursion. Loot the Dark Iron Map from spies in Dun Morogh’s Ironbeard’s Compound, then deliver it to Earthseer Farsen. Check this prerequisite before travelling to Ironforge.
| Quest | Where to start | Objective |
|---|---|---|
| Important Heirlooms | Thom Filch, Old Ironforge | Collect eight Dwarven Heirlooms; check the final-room vaults. |
| The Restless Dead — Alliance | Afadra Dunwall, Old Ironforge | Kill 15 Enraged Apparitions and 10 Tormented Souls. |
| Old Ironforge Incursion — Alliance | Earthseer Farsen, Dun Morogh | Loot Durgen Dirgehammer’s head. |
| An Ancient Grudge | Ghostly Attendant, inside the dungeon | Defeat Faldrim Anvilmar. |
| The Treaty of Understanding — Alliance | Tablet in a final-room vault | Pick up the quest before leaving. |
Four bosses: the short party briefing
The following cues condense Icy Veins’ beta boss observations. Brief each encounter before pulling; this table is a preparation aid, not a complete ability list or final launch strategy.
| Boss | What your group should prepare for |
|---|---|
| Faldrim Anvilmar | Clear nearby apparitions. Interrupt Mind Blast; Anvilmar’s Curse slows the tank’s attacks. |
| Magmatus | Kill the Dark Iron Summoner first. Keep the party away from Fire Nova; heal Combust damage. |
| Plunder | Position for knockback so the tank does not land among uncleared enemies. |
| Durgen Dirgehammer | Clear room edges before engaging. Kill his two Lesser Stone Golems first; expect fear and Rend. |
Build a guild dungeon group that can finish together
Collect each player’s current level, intended role, quest status and available finish time. Nominate a tank and healer, then ask which interrupts, control and resurrection abilities people actually have. Do not assume every member of a class has already learned the same tools.
Use the guild roster template to record attendees and keep a separate run note for quest progress. Name an interrupt owner and a backup where available. Agree a recovery plan before the first pull: who can resurrect, when to release, and where to regroup if the party wipes.
Our suggested checkpoints below keep the run focused. They are an organiser’s checklist, not an in-game route. Ask each player to confirm their own quest log; one member’s completed objective does not establish that everyone is finished.
Before leaving: check objectives and plan the next run
Pause before anyone hearths out. Compare unfinished objectives, uncollected quest items and remaining turn-ins. Record whether a follow-up run is for a missed quest, a particular reward or helping another member. That gives the next invitation a clear purpose without promising a fixed clear time or an unverified experience-per-hour figure.
